- Prince William and Kate Middleton were noticeably absent from Princess Beatrice’s wedding.
- The daughter of Prince Andrew married an Italian businessman.
- Pandemic-related restrictions aside, why were the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge so noticeably absent?
Prince William and Kate Middleton apparently stayed home on Friday. That’s unfortunate because they missed watching their cousin, Princess Beatrice, marry Edoardo Mapelli Mozzi.
No matter how their backers try to explain it away, it’s impossible to frame this as anything other than a royal family snub.
Princess Beatrice Gets Married – and the Future King Is Nowhere to Be Found
Princess Beatrice’s marriage to businessman Edoardo Mapelli Mozzi has been rife with controversy.
He has a son from a previous relationship (not a marriage), which made the daughter of the embattled Prince Andrew an immediate step-mother. (Interestingly, the British press had less to say about Mozzi’s illegitimate child than Meghan Markle’s previous marriage, but we all know why that is.)
Then there was the little tangle Mozzi allegedly got involved in at the wedding of Prince Harry’s close friend, Charlie Gilkes, that left another guest with a black eye.
And, yes, plenty of royals – including Prince William and Kate Middleton – were in attendance at the Gilkes wedding.
The point is, “Edo” has been on this family’s radar for quite some time – so why the apparent “royal rift?”
Kate Middleton & Prince William Should Have Been There

Much ado has been made about the fact that Meghan Markle refuses to have contact with her toxic father. Yet little, if any, ado is made about Prince William and Kate Middleton allegedly discarding family left and right in the pursuit of the unattainable.
Granted, social distancing restrictions in Great Britain forbid gatherings of more than 20 people for weddings. No one is suggesting that Princess Beatrice violate public health guidelines in the midst of a pandemic just to make her “royal wedding” a public affair.
Public health doesn’t explain why Prince William and Kate Middleton were glaringly absent.

The official release about the wedding makes it clear that “close family” attended. Assuming six on Princess Beatrice’s side (Princess Eugenie and her husband, Prince Andrew and Sarah Ferguson, Queen Elizabeth and Prince Philip) and another six for “Edo”, that still leaves room for six more guests.
It’s hard to imagine the bride’s cousin – and the country’s future monarch – wouldn’t make the cut.
No one was expecting Prince Harry and Meghan Markle to come from the United States. But Prince William and Kate Middleton were certainly in the country – would it have been too much to show up?
At this point, probably.
They will one day be the King and Queen Consort. If they can discard their own brother, a cousin like Princess Beatrice certainly doesn’t stand a chance.
